About

A global group of National Geographic Explorers united in April 2020 to begin reflecting on how behavioral changes under COVID-19 were positively and negatively affecting our society’s relationship with nature. We wondered: how would the world look a few years from now if our positive changes in behavior were maintained in the long run? We compiled this book of stories to paint a vision of realistic hope for a future where we can do better. Each chapter includes stories, mixed media (photos, drawings, video, sound, and narration) and a set of educational challenges that can be used by teachers – of diverse ages, demographics, and fields – to discuss and amplify the social-environmental nexus.

PROJECT CONTRIBUTORS

The authors are a group of 59 conservationists, artists, writers, educators, storytellers, and scientists from 21 countries and six continents who united to vision a more sustainable future post-COVID. The majority of us are also National Geographic Explorers, and it is through this perspective that we collectively embark on this journey. A National Geographic Explorer is someone who has the ability to think and see the world with curiosity, aiming to better understand our shared and divergent experiences as a species, with the hope of learning constructive lessons for a more resilient future. It is this Explorer perspective that the Constructive Visions project team collectively possesses – a vision of optimistic reality, of humble hope based in scientific and traditional knowledge. It is through our shared passion, diverse expertise, and unique backgrounds that this project’s visions become realities.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

PARTNERS

Partners are schools and organizations around the globe who have formally partnered with the Constructive Visions Project and have signed a copy of the Constructive Visions Collective Manifesto. Partners play a key role in this project, as they will enable us to engage learners in different geographies and expand our project reach by:
  • sharing our stories far and wide throughout their local networks, encouraging communities to critically engage with the narrative and to participate in the knowledge challenges;
  • working with small groups of students to explore the book chapters and challenges, creating new resources, and adding their own ideas and creativity to spark new pathways for positive change.
